Erlinda - I had the exact same experience with my cousins in Ireland when I visited there for the first time. I was talking about being Irish, and they corrected me and told me that I wasn't Irish - I was American. It was pretty weird (I'll never forget the look on their faces - they were dead serious, and had absolutely no inclination to consider anyone who left Ireland as still Irish). I guess in a way we Americans are stuck somewhere in the middle of things.
