One unfortunate, underqualified senior's attempt to get into Brown
Small private HS (sends many grads to top schools), white, male.
ECs: Editor-in-Chief and founder of a new school magazine (non-fiction, reviews, humor, puzzles, etc)
Editor-in-Chief of the school's literary magazine
Attended writer camp (with 25% acceptance rate, had to submit ten pages)
Track (Outdoor and Indoor) for ~ 3 years (two years varsity in each)
National Merit Semifinalist
Exchange to Germany the summer after sophomore year
Scholarship for that exchange
Community Service: I'm a Peer Leader this year, volunteered for about one hundred hours my sophomore year at several organizations.
My application will include comics from an independent study with an art teacher at school + his recommendation, and my contributions to the first issue of the magazine that I founded.
My college counselor also stated that my main common app essay is one of the best that she's seen in years. (the idea that writing is one of my strengths is especially central to my app)
Three rec's (German teacher since 7th grade, physics teacher, college counselor)
GPA: ~ 3.45, but trending upward. (2.8 freshman year to a 4.0 this year) There was a bit of family turmoil my freshman year (older brother was kicked out of school, younger brother failed most of his classes, some family turmoil, etc) Also, my school doesn't weight grades.
SAT II: 800 World History, 620 Chemisty, HOPEFULLY something good in Literature
SAT: 800 M, 800 CR, 800 W
APs: US History 5
World History 5
Art History 5
Would Brown ever admit me?
