People are unwilling to directly face the primal darkness and ugliness that lay hidden within their own thoughts. When this darkness becomes real (delete: and solid right in front of them), they feel so repulsed by the ugliness of the flaws that actually lay latent within themselves, controlled (delete: and nullified) by civilization and human conscience.
Thus, human beings feel disgusted and resent the flaws that they themselves possess when they see these flaws manifested in others, because now these flaws becomes more real to them, forcing them to directly face and witness their own weakness.
