College Confidential - View Single Post - what happens to all of your personal info????

in light of the recent thefts of personal data from credit card companies and other data storage companies, should we be concerned with sending off our SS, 1040's, birth dates, signatures, credit cards etc. to a half dozen schools, collegeboard-css and fafsa? Are colleges taking precautions to secure and delete this info when it is no longer needed?
