My d was accepted to both schools, and has friends at both. One friend is at Union as an engineer, but his favorite class is philosophy! D got the feeling that Union is more intellectually-focused than UVM, but Burlington has a great social scene. There is plenty to do on both campuses without getting drunk every weekend.
You really can't go wrong with either school.
