Is there anyway for him to postpone his admission for a year, maybe try to get his act together?
I would have real difficulty spending money to send a kid to college given your situation. Unless he has scholarships, where if he messes up it's his own money on the line, I would just tell him that the money is there when he's mature enough to deserve it.
