My roommate and I were both pretty considerate of each other, and we were both unconfrontational. We really never had any disagreements, and we never had a set of rules either. Ironically enough, we had more issues with our next door neighbors than we did with each other. It wasn't a best friend thing either, but it was probably as good a roommate experience as you could ask for.
