Texas and Wisconsin are very strong across the entire academic spectrum. Humanities, Life Sciences, Pure Sciences, Social Sciences, Business and Engineering. By very strong, I mean among the top 20 in all of those disciplines, among the top 10 in many of them and among the top 5 in several.
Furthermore, they both have spirited and lively campuses, loyal and successful alums and are located in AMAZING college towns.
Florida and MSU are similar to Texas and Wisconsin, only not as good. Texas and Wisconsin are among the top 10 state universities in the US, Florida and MSU are among the top 30, but not among the top 15.
