you are will be considered a international student when applying to colleges in the US. there are threads at the top of this forum with lengthy discussions about the questions you have. The short of it is that you don't get any US federal loans and many (but not every) school will take ability to pay when offering admission to international students.

IF you can get into Columbia (and that is a really big if for any student), they will meet your need (as they define it). I have no idea how properties will affect what they expect you to pay.
