Bernanke is a voice of reason.
Seems to have a grasp of the big picture and the education and background to work out a solution.
Seems to know what will indicate to him that things have turned around: Large banks raising private equity and enough investor confidence in those banks to put in their private funds. This seems like a very clear-cut indicator to watch for in the future.
Seems to understand that the confidence needed will come (in part) from people like him saying that the gov't will not let the big banks fail.
Overall first impression: good
