It seems to me you have a clear choice here between an art school that cares most about the "non-mainstream voice" and a university aiming to train students "to be able to find what works best for a particular production.” As near as I can tell, CalArts is training artists and UCLA is training "scholar/artist[s]" to be designers.

Can you really see yourself equally in both mission statements?
