I doubt anybody on this site has failed to notice how little information there is online about graduate schools. I think this secrecy is a hold over from the days when academia kept to itself and graduate degrees weren't necessary for many upper middle class careers. Anyway, the strategy that worked best for me was interacting with professionals in my field. I contacted professors on faculty at a number of different types of universities, exchanged emails with current and recently graduated grad students and spoke to directors of graduate programs. You might also want to suggest to your daughter that she could check out her university's advising programs and pay her old professors a visit before she fades from their memory.
