Do colleges that require the writing test want you to take it with every try?

I want to apply to Stanford and they require the writing component of the ACT. I scored a 31 composite with 10 writing on February's ACT. I plan on retaking for a higher composite, but do I have to take the writing section again, or does Stanford look at my only writing score during admissions?
