really? i thought that it was good for keeping the memories and was easy cause it was in the paragraph prior to mentioning the consequences of photography. Cause remember, it was just talking about the quote " a photograph is like a mirror with a memory" and what she implied by that. It wasnt asking about her overall view of photography.

The question was what does the lines blah blah mean? and the quote was " a photograph is like a mirror with a memory". I dont remember if Sontag said it, but even if she did, you can't get that pohotographs desentisize people from that one sentence. It refers nothing to desentization

And in her essay on photography http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Susan_Sontag, it says that
"Firstly, Sontag suggests that modern photography, with its convenience and ease, has created an overabundance of visual material."

So wouldn't she mean by "mirror with a memory" that it was easy and convient?

Also @ the question over Daguerso vs Niepece, Answer is Niepece because the question was as i remember "Who was the first to start working on first "type of camera"". and the passage states that daguerso based his works off of Niepece's earlier works so the answer has to be Niepece

@Dagou: I remember putting what jungah said, that it desensitized people, although I do not remember how exactly the questioned was asked. However, I do remember that one of the questions that followed was "which of the following is a good analogy to what Sontag believes the effect pictures have" and it was "people who dont enjoy listening to musicians play live". This leads me to believe that Sontag had a negative view on photography.

@daguo -
On Photography - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sontag argues that the proliferation of photographic images had begun to establish within people a "chronic voyeuristic relation" to the world around them. Among the consequences of photography is that the meaning of all events is leveled and made equal.

the overabundance of visual material means we no longer value the real thing as much. think of the big mac ads - they look f-ing delicious, but in reality they look like tiny pieces of crap.
it may not have been desensitized actually, but i don't remember the answer...desensitized sounds right. it definitely is not 'mirror with a memory' - that is positive, and her tone is generally negative.

^^ suggesting to be a professional traveler. she was insinuating that like a traveler, he had just been along for the ride in the family business, not taking a major role. I think you got it right though as no other answer was close to what u think u put down besides the right one

Oh i don't think we're talking about the same question. There was a quote "mirror with a memory" and im not sure if Sontag said it, and the question was asking what the quote implies

Sontag never said anything about a "mirror with a memory." She was completely caustic throughout her evaluation of the daguerrotype.
