Can anyone provide insight into this? I've heard certain colleges prefer ACT over SAT, even if the two scores are relatively similar. For example, colleges would prefer a 2260 SAT over a 34 ACT.
I always thought ACT/SAT were equivalent, but I've heard from some that SAT is preferred? I'm in the West Coast, looking to attend UC's, but my ACT is significantly better than my SAT.
Hm, I see. I've heard even though they state they weigh each the same, they may have a slight preference towards SAT. Kind of how UCs claim to be holistic but it's still 80% grades 20% EC's unlike 50/50 by privates.
I think it's the same for most schools. I talked to a Yale representative about this, because I'll be out of state at a student conference in an SAT date, and he said not to worry, that I could do the ACT instead and it would be alright.
The colleges regularly accept either and do not consider one better than the other. There is to my knowledge only one set of colleges that state a preference. The Cal Poly's, which are in a state where the SAT predominates and is the one taken by most high school students in California, decided about four years ago to state a preference for the ACT.
I've heard friends say otherwise but everything I read on the Internet state they are viewed in the same light. I'm also in the same boat as you and have a much better act score
