on reporting scores

this june is going to be my first act test, but im confused about reporting the scores. according to my friend, you can check your score, and if you score poorly, you have the option of not reporting to colleges. but according to the act site, it says you can only cancel in a week after the test, without the ability to see your scores. can anyone clarify please? thanks

Unlike the SAT which sends all scores, ACT offers score choice. In other words, you can direct ACT to send only the score(s?) from whatever test date that you prefer.

When you register, you can leave off your high school code (so HS doesn't put it on your transcript), and leave the list of colleges blank as well. If you have already registered and entered college names, just go back and edit your responses, and delete them. That way the scores go to your eyes and only your eyes.

Good luck.
