i've taken both the SAT and ACT essay and have scored 10+ on both. i think you can write an SAT style essay for the ACT.. if you can. i found it tougher to use specific examples for the ACT prompt because the prompt for the ACT is usually a direct question. for June it was something like this.. "Do you think companies should be able to market products that are harmful to people?" the question is so general, yet specific at the same time.

if you can think of good examples in history and literture then by all means use them, but persoanlly i could not. i had to use reasoning and rhetoric to argue my stance. overall though i think you can write an SAT style essay for the ACT. the extra 5 minutes also helps a lot good luck

Akittka is right on.

The ACT essay is much more specific than the SAT essay and tends to focus on teen issues like school uniforms, teen driving, or community involvement.

On the SAT you are going to score big points for using examples from history and literature, but the ACT prompts don't really lend themselves to that strategy. Instead you are going to need to use personal examples and logic to make your case.

Just make sure to make it long! ACT graders still like long essays over short ones.

I guess you could. But your examples would be much more different. I believe my ACT essay examples related much more to the actual topic about unethical corporate practices whereas my SAT essays are more about literature, history, and current events. I got a 9 and all positive comments on my ACT score report, though I'm not too sure if this is the proper approach to the essay sections.

sat essays are much more abstract questions; act essays are very direct/straightforward. i think if you can do well on the sat essay, you will be fine for the act one
