Refund on ACT Fee Paid if Not Taking the Test?

S just found out he was accepted to his first choice university so he is not re-taking the ACT he is registered for on Dec. 13. Should I somehow notify ACT so a standby can have a spot? Is there any way to get a refund (I assume not) or transfer a 'credit' to another family member? (D will take the ACT in June 2009).

Here's the answer:

What if I missed the test date I signed up for?
Once you have submitted your registration to ACT, it cannot be cancelled. Once you break the seal on the test booklet, you have used that registration and cannot later request a test date change.

If you completely miss the test date:

If you miss your test date for any reason (including illness, injury, being turned away at the test center for lack of ID or late arrival) you may:

Request and pay for a test date change
Log in to your student Web account and select "Make Changes to Your Registration" or call ACT Registration at 319/337-1270 by the regular deadline for the new test date. If you call during the late registration period, you will be charged a $20 late fee in addition to the test date change fee of $20 for a total of $40.
If you decide you do not want to test on another test date, your basic registration fee and any additional fees (such as late fee or test center change fee) are nonrefundable. If you do not test, no score reports will be sent.

Request a refund for optional services
If you do not test and do not make a test date change, the following fees for optional services are refundable, on written request, if you ordered and paid for the services when you registered:
5th and 6th college codes
Test Information Release
ACT Writing Test

To request a refund, write "REFUND" on your unused admission ticket and mail it to ACT Registration, or write a letter including your identifying information and the test date and test option for which you registered. Label your envelope "REFUND." Refunds will be issued about 8 weeks after the test date and will be issued in the form of payment originally received (e.g., credit to your credit card, if that is how you paid). Requests for refunds received after July 31, 2009, will not be honored.

Send your request to:
