Daughter is visiting WUSTL this month for one of their Open Houses. When registering she checked the box for an optional 20-minute interview. Can anyone tell us what this interview will be like? Is it an informal informational interview or is it more formal? She's planning casual dress since we will be doing the campus tour after the interview, is that OK? Do parents attend this interview? Sorry for the dumb questions but this is the first school where an interview is involved. At other schools we've set up one-on-one meetings with admissions reps, but those were more informational and the parents attended.

Is 1 hr and 40 min long for an interview? This interview was for Georgetown and the interviewer talked for a long time.

Anyone know if "casual" dress for an alumni interview is actually casual?

Casual, IMHO, means collared shirt and nice pants for males. Jeans are OK if they are neat & tidy. Women have greater latitude but NO CLEAVAGE. Either gender should avoid TShirts, sweats, or athletic shoes.

That's my opinion but I think they are general conventions. Part of how you present yourself will also be your acumen at understanding societal norms. Clothes aren't everything and your interview isn't a beauty contest -- but appearance can say a lot and leave impressions, subtle or grand.

clienk: if someone says casual, certainly don't wear a business suit.

Good luck, harbor! Don't worry too much about it.

You may want to think the "Why Georgetown?" question through. I am still stumped...

Edit: Too late.

Hah, that's casual? I wore a Smashing Pumpkins T-shirt and skinny jeans to my only alumni interview so far, and it was for a pretty prestigious college.

i had a georgetown interview like 2 weeks ago and a syracuse university interview last week. The Georgetown one was so much fun and we talked like for 40 mins in his office which was located conveniently like 5 mins from my house. It was pretty casual we talked alot about g-town sports.

Do interviewers ever ask whether their school is the applicant's first choice? What if the answer is no? Also, has anyone had (is anyone having) an interview at Haverford College?
