I'll bite
Where were you accepted: U Minnesota, U Wisconsin, MIT - all early/rolling. Still haven't heard back from U Michigan.
Did you get any scholarships/ Honors program: no Stats:- SAT: 2360 (780 CR/780 M/800 W)
- SAT IIs: 730 Math II, 720 Chem, 690 US History
- ACT: n/a
- GPA: unweighted on a normal scale (my school's is weird), about 3.9
- Rank: 1 (tied with a lot of people)
- Ap Courses: Euro, Chem, USH, Psych, Calc, Gov, Lit
- Other stats: n/a
Subjective:- Essays: I thought they were okay. I only had my English teacher read them and he thought much more highly of them than I did, so I guess they were good.
- Teacher Recs: 1 excellent, 1 above-average
- Counselor Rec: average - I'd only just met her before she had to write it.
- Hook (if any):URM, Female interested in engineering
Location/Person:- State or Country: VA
- School Type: private for 9-11, public for 12
- Gender: F
- major strength/weakness: SATs, ECs. I also think my personality was conveyed really well in my essays.
- why you think you were accepted/rejected/defered where you were: well I didn't apply anywhere regular decision, so I guess my situation is a bit atypical in that I didn't get the chance to get rejected anywhere :P But I think it was mainly my ECs (not extraordinary, but reflected what I was interested in and not exactly run-of-the-mill) and teacher recommendations got me in.
- significant awards/recongitions: National Achievement semi-finalist, National Merit Commended
- summer activities: working
Other Factors:[list]
[*] my family situation was atypical in a way that certainly could have affected my school performance in 10th-11th grades so my school knew about it. I don't know if that came through in my recs, but if it did that may have also worked to my advantage.

eatingfood, is Yale your first choice? It seems to be a "fit" school for you (at least academically). Your political involvement would make me inclined to say Columbia would be good as well.

I'm not at all surprised to see that black students w/ good grades and test scores are doing well. I do hope, however, that students w/ more average stats will post in the spring, when the RD results are out.

Foolish, what average stats? The students on CC who apply to top schools all have about the same stats. Those stats just tend to be high and therefore seem above average, but it is average on CC.
