Is Race a Cliche Essay Topic?

Is race a cliche essay topic for African Americans in the college admissions run?

Looking back, I'd say yes. Then again, it depends on your topic.

yeah, I think race is such an important part of me is there any way to use race and not be cliche ?

I'm just trying to tell my story and it's odd to learn that my story is a cliche!!

Yes, yes, yes! It should be an antihook at this point. Be subtle- check off the black box, list one or two activies/awards for blacks like national achievement of african american empowerment club, and let it go. No need to ride the race car.

I think if that's something about which you're passionate, it could definitely be okay. The only person I know who wrote her essay on race is Chinese and Hungarian Jewish. She's very into community service, the effects of racial and socioeconomic status, etc. She got into Harvard, so it worked for her.
