I know what an LOA is, but what are the terms of getting one, exactly? Is there some sort of deadline at which everything needs to be at the Academy in order to get one? Also, how much do they need to have from you before they can issue you one (grades, EC's etc)?

LOA? Hmm... thats a new one for me. Its not even on the AFA's website... Is it a term from another service academy? I think i may have seen it in the others...

Letter Of Assurance

Basically what it says is that barring any weird occurances, and that provided you get nominated (I'm sure this is a problem about .0001% of the time for people who get LOA's), that you are gauranteed appointment to the academy.

I just don't know what the requirements are to get one, the deadlines involved and how much of your info they have to have before they give them to you.

I talked to my ALO about it...what patriot said above is correct.

The academy will grant them to the superqualified people who don't have an appointment yet. This causes a majority of the LOA's they give out to be given twoards the beginning of the admissions cycle. Your file needs to be complete minus medical and nomination to be even considered. First admissions board meets this month, and will hand some of those precious letters out.

Ok so Air Force LOA's won't be sent out for a while yet? My file is complete (at least everything should be there by now) except for my CFA, which I am taking sometime this week.

I don't know about yall but I am sure hoping that I am one of those superqualified people. I am already tired of waiting and I sent my final things in this morning.

This is from the academy website:

From November 1 through January 31, letters of assurance are sent to students who will be offered an appointment but do not have nominations yet. The letter assures the students that they will be offered an appointment when the nomination is received.

It also says this:

To be considered for an early appointment, our records must include all correspondence about you, as well as the following documents: official results of required examinations (SAT or ACT and PAE); candidate activities records; high school transcript; drug and alcohol abuse certificate; and personal data record. If we don’t have your medical clearance or your preparatory school or college transcript, you will receive a conditional appointment.

I think the early appointment is if you have a nomination and the LOA is if you are still waiting.

I think if you are qualified enough to get an LOA, then the nomination is only yours to lose.

My ALO tells me that LOA's are not charged to the MOC's slot of five at the academy so that can be good news for some people like me. My best friend is also applying and went to Summer Seminar and I think it would be a good deal if we both got in for the class of 2010.

I may not be stellar in terms of academic performance (1360 SAT 660V, 700M; 3.4 unweighted GPA) but I'm hoping that I can get one for track, because I think that they give them to recruited athletes as well (though i'm not exactly sure)

I am the other way around. I am pretty good academic wise (1440 sat, 4.61 gpa,4.0 unweighted, ranked 12/438) but as far as athletics go I am lacking a little. I am trying to make varsity golf team this year but its not a sure deal. Maybe they will like my academics enough to give me one. *fingers crossed*
