| The FEMALE Guide to BCT and the USAFA.... Do any of the current cadets have any advice for us FEMALE new comers? Any little hints to help us make it through the day would be greatly appreciated!
Here are just a few quick questions I could think of: (all you other ladies feel free to add!)
Is there anything you wish you did or did not bring to basic?
The appointment packet mentions that some females bring a blow dryer, but in reality is there time to use it? |

| There is no time to use a hair dryer, do not bring one. Besides you can't use it during 2nd beast anyway. I personally didn't bring anything really and I was just fine. |

| Thanks Potterfan! I figured there would be no time, which is why I was surprised to see it mentioned in the packet. |

| I know potter will also tell you not to cut your hair. Most who did regretted it. Oh and she had an advantage (not bringing anything), we left it all with her Aunt in Denver. Redhead on the other hand had a pretty big bag as I understood it. |

| My hair is also already very short. I think you won't regret it being short if that is what you are used too. I am definitely NOT growing mine out. I have had it short for so long I could barely put it up if I wanted to. |

| How about hair dyes? If the color remains in the "found in nature" range, can one dye her hair? |

| Ok, this will help answer a lot of questions i have. I'm glad someone thought of us girls.
I'm choosing to keep my hair long so i can put it up. I know that you are supposed to be able to keep your hair off of your collar, but when you're doing physical training in Jack's Valley, are you allowed to put it up in a ponytail? Or do you have to keep it in a low bun? It would even be nice if i could put it in a braid.
Also, concerning feminine hygiene, should we, or are we allowed, to bring tampons to BCT on I-day or will they provide that sorta stuff at the academy?
That also brings me to my other question. Will we be allowed to keep medicine like midol or ibuprofen ourselves, or will we have to go to the on-campus nurse/hospital to get them administered? |

| I don't want to mess with the female stuff, but I can answer your dating question. You are free to date civilians and other freshman during your four degree year. The only restriction is that you cannot date (or fraternize) with upperclassmen. |
