You can probably call the Association of Graduates (AOG) during the afternoon of or the day after I-day (after the rush). Last year assignments were also posted relatively fast on CC.

2011 BCT and Ac. Year Squadron Assignments

With regard to our cadet we held a contest during the last party and friends and relatives guessed which squad he would end up in (we printed a list off the internet and the winner won $20 - two winners out of roughly 45 participants).

Appointees going to I-day on their own may want to consider carrying a short note or letter ready to go, add your BCT squad and flight, and just hand it to one of the many alums or parents standing by (you may not be allowed to speak as you're waiting for the bus). The team concept transfers almost immediately to the parents when all of a sudden all of you become our sons and daughters.

My D's Bed and Breakfast family was wonderful, they took tons of photo's and called me to tell me what squadron she was in. D found out who her B&B family was a bit before leaving so I called them and asked if they would help me out by finding out her squadron and calling. They did, it was great, and they went one step further and got a disposable camera, filled it up with photo's and mailed it to me. Or, maybe they emailed me digital and it was her sponsor family on DDO that mailed me the disposable camera - I don't remember. But, the point is that B&B families are great (sponsor families too!) and will probably happily transmit that info to parents back home.

Ok heres a question pertaining to birth certificates... The instructions say "original" but what defines an original? Like if I call the Kansas Dept or Vital Stats and order one and pay a fee, is that considered good enough even though it is a verified copy?

Thanks!!!

It has to have the raised seal of the issuing government agency. Usually issued by the county you were born in, or the State department for sme of our dependents. I think the Kansas dept of vital stats should be ok, but check with them first.

You could probably keep drawings...just be forewarned that your cadre *might* ask you to show them any drawing you get. Although you can obviously refuse, be prepared to get laughed at if the drawing is somewhat personal and you decide to show it.
