I-Day Questions

OK this is for the 2012 candidates to ask the I-day questions. What to bring, what not to bring? Should I sign-up for the AOG or not? What about the Bed and Breakfasts? Parents BCT questions, what is Aggressors, Barbarians etc. ? What is field day? Should we come out for acceptance day? I ahve asked CC to make it a featured discussion

haha yeah the inevitable I-Day thread... i know aggressors and barbarians are the first two BCT squadrons- they go from A-J. The folklore wiki has alot of info.. Basic Cadet Training Group - USAFA Folklore
i've heard to wait a while on the AOG. field day is the last day of 1st beast, when the basic squadrons compete in games against each other.. they also said that on acceptance day there wont be much time (a few hours) to see your cadet, so if you live close enough it's up to you. my parents wont be coming til parents weekend

Kind of a silly thing to worry about, but...If I bought my first pair of boots at orientation, would it be best to wear them on I-day or wear normal shoes and carry the boots?

Just show up wearing civies with boots in hand. You'll get your BDUs and put your boots on a few hours later.

EDIT: Ha, my mistake! I don't suppose you'll be getting BDUs now, will you? Go ahead and show up looking normal. Later on during I-day, you'll switch over to boots and your new ABUs.

Actually, you might want to wear them. There is the potential to get noticed a little bit more, but you end up carrying one thing less--for most of the day.

I probably wouldn't wear them (I didn't), just cause a pair of boots can be strung around your neck without adding to your load, so it's not really worth the extra attention. But whatever you decide, you'll survive. It's not a make or break type of decision.

Okay, here's one. I'm having the academy fly me in, and I'm guessing they'll have me there ahead of time by at least one night, so am I gona have to find a hotel to stay in until I-day, or will they have somewhere to sleep provided?

you can register for the bed and breakfast program, where you stay w/ a host family June 25 and they'll bring you to the academy on I-day.

The advice from Hornet et al has been not to be the first one to show up in the morning...instead sleep in, get a good breakfast, and report within the the last hour.

Try to bring as little as possible. Take what is on the list and nothing more (except maybe your phone and a wall charger, that did come in handy).
