Anyone know how competitive Houston, TX is for congressional nominations?

I hear Texas in general is competitive, but I'm not from Texas so I'm sure someone else knows better than me.

Well I cannot speak from any personal experience, but I understand Texas in general is very competitive. Houston even more so. In about 6 hours Hornetguy will see this and he will be able to speak from personal experience. You should count on having to make the best candidate possible of yourself. Don't plan on being a triple nominee (2 Senators and 1 Congress Rep). You will likely end up with a rep and possibly a senator.

Houston is one of the most competative districts in the country. 1 in 25 cadets are from the SE Texas area making for a lot of nominations. i was told by the members of congress (MOC), to include Rep McCaul, that they only nominate one person (no doubling up) in order to provide the maximum number of candidates to the academy. That said, even without going to my interview in Austin with McCaul's staff, I received his nomination in January and Sen Cornyn's nomination in Nov. So, you can get more than one, tiny chance of 3 in state.

Word of warning, Senator Cornyn's nomination application is LONG and involved. 8 essays to be exact. So start early and get on it.

I completed the VP nom. , Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison's nom., and am working on my local congressman Nick Lampson's nomination packet. Do you think I have a shot?

Couldn't tell you. Just be sure you do your best on their applications and apply to everyone you are eligible for. The academies are very important to our TX MOCs.
