I submitted my Dodmerb packet in early August. As far as I was concerned I did everything correctly and to the best of my ability. I waited, and about 2 weeks later I received a letter from dodmerb saying that I had to fill out a form about an incident where I seriously cut my thumb, and copies of the documents from my apendectomy last summer. I sent those in thinking that th dreadful dodmerb conflict was done, however earlier this week I recieved yet another letter from dodmerb. They are asking me to send in a form detailing my allergies (which I do not have) and ALL MEDICAL RECORDS SINCE THE AGE OF 10.........has this ever happened to anyone else. I have literally no idea why they would pursue this.

i just got it done this past summer in like two weeks
don't know why they are asking about allergies if you said you have none, you might have accidentally checked something on the form.
they pursue it because they have to screen for things that may prevent you from succeeding in the military. after all, they are potentially investing a significant amount of time and money in you.

Drack's right- we are a very costly investment, so we need to be in relatively tip-top shape (at least when we get here- then we can get banged up as much as we please after basic). Besides, you really don't want to get here and then have them find some random thing wrong with you and send you home- that usually happens AFTER you get off the bus.

Uh, no.
You can still be asked to leave for medical reasons. It's not common, and often they will let you graduate (no commission), but it is possible.

taz, i had to fill out a crap-ton of forms too. i've had like 5 surgeries on my nose and broken it 5 times, and they were pretty upset bout that. lol.. i had to send them all my medical records since like 2000. but, i got notes from doctors thoroughly explaining that i had no problems whatsoever, and got qualified. no big deal, just get it done ASAP and call USAFA and DODMERB to keep up to date w/ where it is, etc.

Yes, the DODMERB is a real test of your determination. Don't panic, but read those letters carefully and follow up regularly. My D had to do much the same - records from age 10, allergy questionnaire - plus eye exams. In fact, at one point she was disqualified outright for bronchial spasms that she had never had based on a mistake in how a doctor had written up her record. Don't give up! She persevered and is now happy as a plebe at Kings Point.

DoDMERB is probably the most difficult thing for a potential candidate to navigate. It is also one of the places a candidates parents can be very proactive. If you have had any medical problems since about the age of 12 it will need to be documented and will likely result in an initial DQ, unless you also provide sufficient explanation. I would like to suggest the Service Academy Forum for medical questions. There are two DoDMERB people that answer questions on that board.

My daughter and I had to track down every single medical record from birth to age 18 and have some extra tests done before DoDMERB cleared her. At the time it seemed like we'd never get everything in order but our persistence paid off and now she's off to play some Falcons tennis in Kansas this weekend.

I had to do the allergy sheet. Like everyone says, they just want you to be in the tip top shape.

I was lucky to not have any problems with it but DoDMERB is verry strict about alot of the stuff. I had a hernia surgery when i was six, and so we put that down, then they thought it was for a knee repair and sent me a bunch of stuff to fill out. But i just called and told them about it and it was fine. Now I'm qualified for everything and its all golden. However i met a Cadet who said she had DoDMERB stuff lasting for seven months. She got DQed for one thing, got a waiver for it, then DoDMERB looked through it all and DQ'ed her for something that it passed the first time, that got OKed as well, then DoDMERB tried to DQ her for the first thing AGAIN. Everything worked out and she is a firstie I think this year, but its a pain in the...ya... to figure it out, but stick with it and it SHOULD all be ok

Just to update, because I forgot to. Everything is fine now, I am fully qualified, and my file was complete in early November. It is now a waiting game.

Where does a candidate go to take the DoDMERB? I heard it was the nearest active duty Air Force base, is that accurate?
