Housing at Alfred

We have been looking at Alfred for my D who wants to go into engineering. There is a lot to like from her perspective, including the variety of majors and minors in the department, but the one thing that looks not up to par is the housing. What little that can be told from the website looks like the freshman dorms are all 60s vintage or older with almost no upgrades. Even the upperclass housing looks very 80s. For a school with an over 10K price tag for room and board, it seems a little lacking. If you're going to be stuck out in the middle of nowhere, at least it would be nice to have a nice room to come back to at night. Can anyone comment of the housing status?
