Great Admissions Office!

OK, I figured I have put in my share of gripes and vents on CC, it is time I give props where they are deserved. Allegheny has been the BEST experience I have had so far in the admissions process, out of a dozen or more schools D has dealt with. Everyone at the office is SO helpful, from calling us at our home when we made a mistake on the online visit form to giving us a better detour around the construction on the interstate, and it doesn't matter who picks up the phone - if the person you are looking for is out or at lunch, no problem - the issue is resolved with the live body at the other end of the line. A total 180 from my D's current first choice (don't get me started there!!) - can't wait to go and visit these friendly, helpful people! Thanks Allegheny admissions!

I agree. My experience with my daughter 3 years ago was outstanding, and I'm looking forward to my visit this summer with my son. Do they still give out a coupon for a discount at the bookstore?

We visited. I do not recall receiving a coupon at the bookstore. Either my son got a voucher for lunch, or we all did (I do not recall bc we looked at 2 schools on that trip-one supplied the prospie with lunch and the other offered us all a complimentary lunch). They did have snacks at the admissions office. I remember wonderful fresh fruit on a stick.

The campus is very nice. We did find the dining hall to be very crowded.

We had lots of questions, and the admissions counselor was very happy to take the time to answer. I did not realize that one could use one of their cars (after taking some driving test/lesson there), and showing a license. I did not see that on their website. I learned about that only from admissions.

When we were there, we received both vouchers for the coffee shop/cafeteria, as well as a discount card. This was one of those special weekends though, so perhaps they were stepping it up a bit?

It is possible that we got some type of discount for the bookstore. I just don't recall bc we had no intention of buying anything since our son is just was just a sophomore and we were just beginning our college tours, and starting that process early.

I'm really glad to hear good feedback- Allegheny is one of my top schools right now.
Northeastmom: You're allowed to borrow a school car? that's really cool. Do you know if it's just for around the city, or could you also use it to go home on Christmas? Just wondering. I live in Alabama, and the coming home on holidays thing is proving to be a difficult topic.
Thanks!

I was just at Allegheny - no bookstore coupon, but we did get meal coupons for the student center. Interesting to see buildings that weren't there four years ago at my previous visit. The admissions office is still very welcoming, and I had a great time talking to the other parents while our students were interviewing. Son was very positively surprised by Allegheny, and it is now one of his favorites.
