I've just had jaw surgery and am going to have to miss class for doctor's appointments. I've read on my teachers' syllabi that if I miss class I get two points deducted off of my final grade for every day that I miss. Do you think that they would make an exception for me?

I think if you aproach the professor prior to missing the classes, explain your situation and ask how you can make up the work you will have no problem.
