Should I apply for diversity open house?

I recently got an email about Amherst's DIVOH. When I read the email, however, I noticed that they give preference to URMs, first gen, and low income students. I, however, am none of those. I am ethnically Filipino, with graduate degree parents, and upper middle class. Is it worth applying for DIVOH at all?

I could write an essay about being the only ethnically "asian" person in a rural all white school then moving to a diverse school and realizing that, culturally, im not really 'asian"

I think you should apply. I'm applying, though I don't thing I'll get in because of my low SAT score. There isn't really a fee or anything so I would say, why not? The only thing it can hurt is your ego.

Yes, of course you should apply, particularly if you were sent information. My daughter (who is now an Amherst alum '11) went and I and her father are both Ivy League Ph.Ds and she is not in any way low income, etc. She went had a great time , applied early decision, got in and had the best education she could ever hope for. I have nothing but positive things to say about Amherst. It doesn't get any better than that.

Is Filipino not an URM? I think on the Amherst page it says Asians are included Good luck! Hope you applied!
