I'd like to know your stats, and what you thought the biggest factor in your acceptance was.

I've been reluctant to post these, but since you asked...

GPA: 4.0 uw, 4.53 w
Rank: 2/451
Good public high school in Eastern mass...we have lots of smart kids but i wouldn't say we're competitive about it
Most rigorous courses available
4 APs this year: Physics C, Calc B, Eng Lang and Comp, AP US
5's on AP Chem and AP World...i'm not taking English or History this year because they'll be useless for me at Amherst

SAT: 750V 780M
SATII: Math2C 800, Chem 800, Bio 730

Recs: excellent
Essays: pretty good? i didn't really care too much

EC's
-Math Club
-AMC-12
-NHS
-Tutoring, Chemistry and Physics
-Harvard Book Award
-did some angiogenesis research this summer, pretty boring
-honorable mention in regional chem exam, qualified for chem olympiad
-Varsity Soccer, captain and co-mvp; 1st team all-star for league and paper
-Club soccer, year-round since i was little; traveled to Holland, Florida, CA, etc.; won 4 state championships, regional finalists; state team...usually about 20 hours a week or something

I could be forgetting some stuff, but i don't really remember

I was recruited for soccer, so I'm guessing that that was a huge factor in my acceptance...as is the case with most schools; soccer was a huge (the biggest) EC for me as well. Hope this helps

well, this year it wasn't as crazy because we are done with the recruiting process...but during the recruiting process..we'd practice 2-3 times a week and travel every weekend so the hours added up, it was pretty intense depending on the season haha

Rank: N/A
Other stats: six 5s on AP tests, taking 5 more this year

Recs: solid, nothing special
Hook (if any): lots of music (co-concertmaster a nationally recognized youth ensemble) & i was contacted by the music director

State or Country: kentucky

i definitely think i got in because of my music. i'm pretty well rounded as well, but since i was contacted by the music director, i have a feeling that played into the decision and helped distinguish me from the applicant pool.

accepted

1500/800/720/720
96.8 W avg (steadily dropping)
was ranked 3, dropped to 4 (accelerating downwards) (but hey, our valedictorian was waitlisted at Amherst)

passions in english/languages, visual arts, neuro, which reflected into the types of honors/service/ECs I did. Tri-varsity athlete.

Asian, female, NY.

Applied at very last minute, somewhat unwillingly and carelessly. The dean commented on my essay (or was it a generic letter that everyone got?), though; I re-read it and decided it wasn't as horrible as I thought it was.

Um... still hesitant... I didn't like my fall overnight visit at Amherst, but I received a full ride (as opposed to having to take out 1,600 in loans for Wellesley or 2,625 in loans for Swat... yes, I'm dirt poor). Mainly I'm worried about the strength of Amherst's art department and its setting.

Accepted-and going

1500/790/760/730
99.71 average... @ a pathetically unknown high school
Westchester County, NY
Asian Male
Rank: 1/160ish

Completely undecided major
4APs and courses through Syracuse Univ.
EC's: Leads in all theatre productions, mixed choir, varsity basketball, all the generic honors societies.
Essay: -shruggs- I thought it was good, who knows? It was very geared towards amherst, and my time at DIVOH
Rec's: I'm assuming they were good, I didn't ask.
Hook: If there was one... vocals. Have performed at Carnegie Hall with my school's choir, and sent in an arts supplement for musical theatre

So yeah... if anyone going to Amherst next year wants to talk... AIM is nyk20338. hope to see some people around
