I am one of the Feynman type of guys (obviously not as intelligent, lol!) ... i study hard ... but not to get the greatest gpa .... i like science because it keeps surprising me .... and i party a lot ... love pink floyd ... do rock-climbing ... i see more than normal people do in most things and i imagine a lot .... and i always dreamed of doing something special for the world ................. so thats about me beating my own drum ......... can any sifting be done in my choice of colleges? is there any college where I would be an odd-on-out??
I guy who lives next door got into Middlebury(he had applied ED elsewhere so he couldn't attend) ... and if he can get in I sure as hell can (Don't take me as over-confident or anything ....) .. but numbers and talent to speak for themselves for themselves .. don't they???

If your neighbor was accepted somewhere else ED, then he should have withdrawn his Middlebury application. If the colleges found this out, he could lose both offers of admission.

oh!! thats kinda weird! he's doing pretty fine now in dickinson .... maybe he bluffed about the middlebury thing then .... do we withdraw all regular applications once we get ED??? i didn't know that ..... so ... what if I apply and get ED to Middlebury and got RD at MIT???? I will have to jump from the tenth floor down ...... no other alternative!

you need to learn more about the application process first.

If you apply ED to Middlebury that should be the only application that you submit. The application deadline for ED is typically some time in early November, with decisions rendered in early December. RD applications are generally due on Jan 1 so you would submit RD applications only if your ED application were denied.

Some schools have a second ED round (known as ED2), with applications due on Jan 1 and decisions made in early December. You would then be required to withdraw all other applications if your ED2 application is accepted.

So .... suppose I apply ED to Dartmouth(which I will) and get and apply RD to MIT before I get accepted at Dartmouth, what happens then?? I withdraw my RD as soon as I get accepted at Dartmouth?? Is it true that if I deny the ED acceptance because of low aid, I will be a blac-marked candidate and will not be accepted RD anywhere?? Does anybody know about MIT's EA plan?? Can I apply EA to MIT and ED to Dartmouth??? Do bear with me. I am learning!!

As I said before, why would you submit your RD application to MIT BEFORE it was due????? You would apply to Dartmouth ED on Nov 1 and receive a decision in early December. If your ED application were rejected by Dartmouth, you would then submit your RD applications to MIT and your other RD choices by the deadline for RD applications, which is Jan 1st in most cases.

BTW, the MIT EA option is not available to internationals . .

1) You may only apply Early Decision (binding) to only one school (Early Action, which some schools offer, is non-binding).

2) You may apply ED to a school and submit RD applications to other schools, but most people will wait to hear back from their ED school before submitting other applications. If you are accepted to your ED school, you must withdraw all of your RD applications.

Now I get it .... and everybody had told me so many foolish things here ..... Just one question ..... do you send the application only on the due date?? Wouldn't sending it a bit early be helpful as the load for assessment would be less for the Adcoms and they would be able to ponder over the application a bit more?? Is it too childish to think so??

It probably won't make any real difference but you might as well plan on submitting your application a little in advance of the deadline just so you're not running around trying to get everything done at the last moment and perhaps not being as careful as you should be . . .

As far as I see, you have great stats... But... there are a lot of folks around (especially from India) with as brilliant stats as you have. So... you need to work good on your essays and bring life to your application.

Since you are an international candidate, it is a fair assessment to say that almost every top national university and liberal arts school is a reach for you.

Although, Middlebury, as well as many other liberal arts colleges, is known for being most generous and favorable toward internationals.

You should research your colleges more carefully.
