i'm also leaning Amherst for ED! I am having trouble finding my chances because I only plan on submitting the ACT.

falafel2010, the 25%-75% for ACT scores are 29-34.

"(I'm not expecting to find too many people who'd pick Amherst over, say, the Ivies on CC, but just in case any of you are out there... )"
The typical CC'er does not reflect the typical bright, motivated, and introspective student who has the option of choosing among several top tier schools. Amherst typically loses out against only Harvard, Yale, and Princeton (as does every other school besides Stanford, MIT, and CIT), and competes evenly with Brown, Columbia, Dartmouth, and Penn, handily beats Cornell--and Williams. http://knowledge.wharton.upenn.edu/papers/1287.pdf (1999) SSRN-A Revealed Preference Ranking of U.S. Colleges and Universities by Christopher Avery, Mark Glickman, Caroline Hoxby, Andrew Metrick (2005)

from the info session, ED is mostly destined for legacy kids and athletic kids... regular good students will not increase their chances by applying ED.

I'm going to apply to Amherst, but I don't know whether ED or RD. I'm only a junior in high school this year, but I pretty much know what colleges I want to go to and such. I'd be the class of 2015. I'm visiting Amherst, Williams, Bowdoin, and Conn College this fall. Whichever college I like most I'll apply ED to. Amherst seems really great - some of the profs are fabulous.

You can get out of the ED contract if you can prove their financial offer isn't enough.

RD, 85% sure I'm applying.
Anyone started the supplemental essay yet? I've brainstormed but haven't put pen to paper yet.
