An average of 15 students major in Computer Science annually.
There are three tenured professors and one associate professor.
It's not a matter of embarrassment: it's just confusing that one would enroll at Amherst intent on majoring in Computer Science when one is better off looking at Stanford or MIT, peer schools with far greater and more numerous research opportunities in the field.
However, the benefit of studying CompSci at Amherst is that one isn't burdened by distribution requirements or a core, in addition to small class sections.
