At my school kids as freshman can either take AP Spanish or AP Psychology. Psychology I dont know why, but the reason they let us take spanish is because the most of us are native speakers.

My daughter took AP Euro and AP Psych her freshman year. As a sophomore she's doing APUSH, AP Bio and AP CS AB.

At my school, no freshmen is allowed to take APs unless it's on FLVS. However, I know many at other schools took AP Human Geography

At my D's school, kids may take AP Human Geography and AP Bio (instead of Honors Biology)if they want. She took the AP Bio and got a 5 on the exam.

My school didn't let anyone take APs as a frosh.

AP Stay on the Right Side of the Hallway

    And that was about it.
I really don't think Freshman should be allowed to take APs. It's rather unnecessary. My school doesn't allow it, and we made Newsweek's Top 100 Public High Schools list.

It's hard enough transitioning into HS.

Just take some solid honors courses and don't worry about AP till at least next year. And even sophomore year, you probably wouldn't do more than one or two.

    Looking at the AP report
    http://professionals.collegeboard.com/profdownload/ap-report-to-the-nation-2008.pdf
as presented in another thread, most freshman take AP Human Geography.
I am interested how many top middle schoolers had problems transitioning into HS and AP classes?

Why would you? I mean, unless you seriously love learning, freshman year is IMO not a year for college prep. Freshman year should be about getting the feel for high school, figuring out some meaningful activities, and adapting to the new social situation.
Save the APs for junior/senior year, and maybe a small amount sophomore year. No one is going to tell you that you will be at a competitive disadvantage if you don't take AP classes freshman year.
