Question about AP Bio FRQ scoring

I've noticed that a question can be worth more than 10 points: for example 5 points for (a), 4 for (b), and 3 for (c) which equals 12.

What if you get the maximum number of points on each part, is it still counted out of 10? What if you get 10 points out of the maximum 12, does that mean you got 10/10?

Are the extra points just chances for you to get to 10 points?

yup, you are correct, you can only get 10 points a question but there usually is more for each section that adds up to more than 10 points so you have the chance to more in one section if you don't do well in another.

But each section is never worth more than 4 pts, so don't try to squeeze 10 pts out of it.

how many pts out of 40 should we aim for, given the offer +1-3 pts per essay for bonus, to shoot for a 4 or 5?
