Some schools dont offer APS, some dont allow self-study

Yes, my school doesnt offer more than 10 AP courses total, and the majority of them are in the sciences.

My school never informed me that you could self study. I didn't know CC existed until the beginning of my junior year whereas many freshmen and 8th graders ask if they're on the right track, get chanced, and are fed the competitive college track philosophy from a young age.

This complaint isn't for sympathy. Its just to point out that all you CCers complaining about not being National AP scholars after taking 8 or so of the easiest tests (bio, human geo, econ etc.) should not be touting your privilege in the face of the less priviledged.

Basically some of these threads are pointless. Do well on your SATs /ACTs folks!

ok man, calm down. look, your right in saying that many people aren't as privileged when you're looking at APs and self-studying and opportunities like that, but colleges know this. When they look at your application, they will have a copy of your school's profile which will list all the APs it offers, etc. SO colleges will know how you take advantage of the limited opportunities and will consider you within context. Secondly, I agree, many threads are pointless. But it's the only opportunity many students have to show off what they've worked for. I'm sure these guys can't just go to the nearest Starbucks and tell the person at the counter that they just got a 5 on AP Chem or a 2350 on his SAT. That's the beauty of CC, where fellow college-bound "overachievers" can get together and enjoy the fruits of their labors. So just chill, we're all just trying to succeed.

my school never informed me of self study either. and my school only offers something like 5 AP classes. ultimately our science and math programs S U C kkkkkkkKKKKK.
i took the initiative though and went up to guidance and told them what i had in mind... self studied for a few tests and took the tests.

i've found that the opportunity for almost everything is almost always there. you just need to hunt it out. a lot of this has to do with not being well enough informed. after seeing this... ive been working with SGA (student gov) to help get the word out on a lot of stuff, from community programs, school clubs, scholarships, everything. there are a million things i would have done if i had known about them earlier.
