mw4hsk, thanks for all the information. I was accepted to Auburn and when I went to visit the architecture school they told me about the Foundation Unit and said something about having an extra form to fill out after your acceptance. What did your daughter have to do to get into the Foundation Unit? Did she find out she was in it before attending Auburn? I'm only interested in Auburn if I can get into the Foundation Unit... to risky otherwise.

I'm also confused about acceptance to the Foundation program. The letter I got from CADC said I had been accepted for the Fall of 2011, which would be my entering semester, does that mean I'm in? When I visited my guide did not say anything about the extra information sheet, just the better applicants go into Foundation

2011 Architecture Acceptances

Yes, our daughter knew before she decided to attend Auburn. It was very, very late though and down to the end (about April 26th). She had already said she was attending Auburn and paid the deposit just as a means of putting in an application for housing (they do not have enough for all freshman and you cannot put down a housing deposit which is refundable for housing until you pay acceptance deposit which is non-refundable).
If you read on their site it explains how the Foundation Unit is selected. To first be considered you have to have a certain SAT, GPA, and then fill out another form which will be mailed to you later (last year it was Feb) if you have those stats. They are looking for students that have a strong academic background and hopefully AP Credit. If you call they can explain everything further and give you dates etc.
Our daughter was also reluctant to attend if she was not in Foundation. She had other schools that have great architecture programs, but she really loved Auburn for a lot of reasons. We stressed to her that she needed to choose a school which she would be happy attending even if she did not stay in architecture.

I just noticed that you said you got a letter from CADC saying you were accepted. Was this from Auburn Admissions or the Architecture school? Last year the acceptance letter was from Auburn Admissions saying she was accepted into CADC for Fall 2010, but it was not from CADC. The students which attend Summer Option are also in CADC and begin in Fall 2010 - they take one ARCH class in the Fall (Careers in Arch). You may want to call and ask - maybe they have changed things.

The letter I got saying I was accepted into architecture was from CADC, I got that letter this week, but heard from regular admissions about 2 months ago. I'll call after they reopen January 3rd and find out

EDIT: Just looked at the site, I believe this policy has been changed based on what I read. http://www.cadc.auburn.edu/arch/degrees_prog/arch_prog

That is exactly what was on their site last year. Note the "and a placement survey." The placement survey was what she rec'd in Feb of last year. Based on your letter from CADC it appers that they may have decided to eliminate the survey which involved questions & sketches if you had the stats they were looking for. I believe the survey and the delay in notifying people really cut out people that did not want to wait for the reply.

Before calling you may just wait - the CADC site is down, wonder if there are changes in how they are doing the admissions and they may be making those updates on the site over break.

momofboston - our girls may end up at school together! A little Merrimac Valley connection. D is still waiting to hear back from lots of other schools, some are reaches but so far the matches and safeties are coming through. In a few months this will all be over and we can start planning the graduation party!
