People applying to Cornell Architecture School?

My son has applied for ED. Have you applied for ED or RD? Are you willing to share your stats and EC's?Have you had your interview? Was it on campus or with Alumni? How many pieces have you submitted in your portfolio?

i'm applying RD.. so sad.... cuz i don't have my portfolio ready....
well,, does stats really matter for Architecture?? as much as in other schools?
i think its the portfolio that counts the most... i mean,, people with less than 1100 OLD SAT got in with good portfolios

stats are important none the less. I know that the AAP school generally has lower SATs, but i find it hard to believe that 'people' with a sub 1100 SATs were admitted. Sounds more like an isolated event. My girlfriend is in the architecture program now, and although she had a marvelous portfolio, she also had a 1400 SAT, 98/100 GPA in 4 AP classes, and top 4% of class rank. Also, she was waitlisted at first, wrote a letter, updated portfolio and a few other things, then was one of 5 students admitted off the waitlist into architecture. It's highly a highly competitive program, a great portfolio won't make up for medocre grades and SATs. They're looking for creative and overall well rounded individuals who would contribue alot to Cornell's intense academic environment. Good luck to you all!

RD, i cant recall exact EC's, but many along the lines of stage crew leader for the theater dept, varsity crew, sunday school church teacher, summer camp leader, had a job, etc. She had a nicely rounded out resume, and had interviewed half a dozen or so architects from NYC and other big cities to make sure it's what she wanted to do. And of course, she told all of this to admissions.

Thanks for the information. Do you know how much the interview and the portfolio will influence the selection process?

My son felt very good after the interview with the Alumni. My son's portfolio is pretty solid. Stats are not bad - could be better. 2030 - 700M/680V/650W. Sat IIs - US history - 710, Math IC 730, Bio 630. AP US history 4. He has 3 more AP's this year. His EC's are good - Eagle Scout, Member of various school clubs. National Art Honor Society. National Merit Scholarship commended.
My son spent a lot of time on the common app essay and Cornell's essay. It turned out pretty solid. He spent a good part of his summer writing essay.

He has applied for ED. Do you think he has a good chance?

what about his portfolio? i may have exaggerated up there, but at least it would take up about 30~40% of the decision making

the hard thing about these architecture schools is that you can't really compare stats and say "oh i have a substantial chance" The stats for architecture schools are greatly different from other schools, but it is not posted anywhere separately. Also, you can't really look at last year's people's portfolios unless u search for hundreds of hours...sad

i really cannot guess chances for architecture. If it was ILR, sure, but there's sooo many variables when it comes to the AAP school.

I wouldn't worry too much about SAT scores. Obviously, worry if you have all 500's, but upper 600's and 700's is all you need to be competitive. I know the school gets alot of 750+ SAT scores from people who think they can prance in with their good stats, but weak portfolios kill them. Interest in architecture is obviously necessary. The program is notoriously tough, and Cornell won't admit you unless you're commited enough to deal with the rigor of the program.

It's also hard because admissions likes to keep things close to their chests. I know it's possibly to see the submitted portfolios of current student's (they had my gf's out there for a while) but i think this is the only peek you can get.

It's a highly competitive program, i'm guessing the admit rate will be in the teens this year. Good luck!!
