New Architecture Major Forum

Based on a number of requests and the fact that Architecture often stands on its own as a school (vs. being part of "Arts" or other school), we have launched this new forum.

Now all CC's would-be architects have a place to hang out!

I'm just wondering why you don't have any section for the Humanities? Like History and English ect...

Seeing that Roger has created a new forum for those interested in majoring in architecture, I have moved 262 past threads relating to architecture to this new forum. These go back for 2 years and 2 months. There are redirects on all the forums where these threads originated. Some were from our Arts Majors Forum. However, many threads came from individual college forums. SOME of those threads' titles do not reflect the name of the university about which the thread relates, though some do have the college name in the thread title. But at least they are all here in one place. So, explore away!

Good guess, for now at least. We generally start forums when there is a critical mass of activity related to a topic. We should all thank CollegeMom for her work in creating some relevant background content in the new forum!!

I kinda wonder this too... seems to me that the most-popular majors should be the ones to have their own forums. As it now stands, most are fighting it out for attention in the "Other College Majors" section. Are there really more musical theater majors than say, English, psychology, science, history, etc? The statistics say otherwise.

Marsden, the forums you list above on specific majors have one thing in common....these are specialized degree programs. That is not really the case with English or History majors who earn a BA in a liberal arts education. CC can't have forums for every possible major. The fact is, the admissions process is a bit different for those considering specialized degree programs such as engineering, musical theater (BFA), art, music (BM programs), and architecture. I see this both as a college counselor at CC, but also as a parent of two kids who are in these fields. One of my kids is in a BFA program in Musical Theater. I can tell you that THAT college selection and admissions process was way different than for my kid applying to regular colleges! I also have a kid in architecture. She is doing a BA in Architectural Studies and will be applying for MArch programs. I'm glad to see architecture getting its own forum as it is also a specialized degree program with its own requirements, etc.

I've been on CC for many years. Musical theater didn't used to have its own forum. Rather, it was a very long 40 PART thread (meaning 40 different "continued" threads of numerous pages each) and due to all that interest and all those threads, it became its own forum. The Music forum is more recent but again, we had many threads related to music programs and topics and so they were moved to one place. I gather that is why Roger moved architecture to its own forum, due to the many existing threads on the topic. A lot of sub forums have been created over the years due to demand that is observable from the many existing threads relating to one area. So, that is the case with many of these "major" threads. The demand was there, as were many threads over a period of time, but also in the case of the majors, these are specialized programs with topics of their own that don't relate as much to regular college admissions which is what someone intending to major in a liberal arts subject goes through. So, it is not like statistically there are MORE musical theater and architecture majors, but simply that the college selection and admissions process is replete with its own aspects for these majors, as well as the demand on CC has warranted their own forums.

^^^ cool thanks I kinda figured it was something like that. I guess I just wish there were specific forums for the more popular liberal-arts majors. And science majors for that matter.. The current arrangement just appears to privilege these "specialized" majors and I know that's not the intention.
