The best notebook for architecture students

everything is going swell in the architecture department of UCLA, a little artsy in my opinion. Our first project was to do a hand drawing of our model and now were going to translate it into computer.

unfortunately I have a two year old compaq Presario v2000 and it is slow when using autocad 2008, adobe suite, etc. I think it's time for a upgrade. Any suggestions-

1. the best for the "bang of the buck"
2. the top of the line, most expensive
3. it's cheap, but it works.

I roll with the Lenovo T61P. I guess it fits somewhere in between category 1 and 2. It is much better than getting a high-performance dell (especially with the graphics card in the T61P - beats the graphics cards most other manufacturers use for their high-end). However, it is no Alienware monster.

there is never enough memory....you'll need as much memory as you can. make sure it has a good graphics card (not integrated with the processor)

i know UCLA is extremely computer based...so it might even be advantageous of you to buy a desktop with lots of RAM and memory if you're concerned about price.

im concerned with mobility as well.

well..should mobility be a concern?

maybe one of those shuttle pcs?

i know a desktop is a lot cheaper, but just having to carry a pc easily is a plus for me.

if only those little imacs had a good video card...
