| Tempe Apartments
Have just completed helping my ASU sophomore daughter find a 2BR / 2Ba apartment in Tempe. It was not an easy task and took 3 days of all-day driving, phoning, checking online ratings and reviews. You don't say where you live now and your profile gives no clue.
You should look NOW for an apartment, in person if a local and by phone if not. The closer you are to the campus, the (mostly) older the complexes are and rents are higher. The complexes near campus will be populated mostly by students.
I first checked two apartment review/ratings sites and phoned the highly rated places. This quickly turned into an exercise in futility as not one of them had availability. D tried a couple of apartment locator places and had no luck, which surprised me as I've found apartments using that method before.
Meanwhile D and her roommate drove around, both together and separately, for 2 days. On the 3rd day the 2 moms helped and after looking at complexes separately all morning, we went to top choices in the afternoon and made a decision at about 3pm.
You will definitely be able to find an apartment in your price range. One thing I strongly suggest is that you "google" Tempe crime apartments, and look at the local police department Crime Analysis Unit annual reports of calls answered at apartment complexes. I would want to avoid complexes that have too many burglary, loud noise, vehicle theft reports.
Many complexes have ads online, with floorplans, photos, etc. Decide what's important to you (D wanted washer and dryer inside the apartment, which turned out to eliminate many places and complexes older than about 10 years). Then make phone calls to check availability. Many ASU students commute by bicycle, so anyplace within a mile or two of the campus would work. Remember temps. around here stay above 100 every day until at least Sept. 15th, often even til Oct. 1st. You can "map" any address to see where it's located.
Most of the above is just common sense. You need to look immediately to find an apartment for mid-August when ASU classes start. You will have to undergo a credit and criminal background check as part of the "application" process. Good luck!
