summer programs

i just wanted to know if you have to live in a new york city area
in order to attend cooper union outreach program.
i want to go to the summer program that lasts about 6 weeks or so.
i live faraway from new york [in georgia]
and i can probably spend my summer in new york.

i can't answer your question, but do have a recommendation, in case other summer art programs don't work out.

if you are a sophomore or junior you should try getting into the georgia governor's honors program.

i was an art major there during the summer after my sophomore year, and it was wonderful!

also, if you get in, it's free. hooray!

I have here printed flyer from last year.
My son takes Saturday class there and this was given after he completed program last spring. It is confusing because they have year around Saturday program that is not so selective and taught by grad students and Outreach program which is selective and taught by teachers, then this Summer programs as part of Outreach. They are not good at giving info on web nor phone but you can still try sending e-mail or calling or writing to clarify what means by ‘NY area’
My feeling is that, if you can show up on the portfolio review in person, you are in the area.

A free art program for New York City area high school students
4 week Drawing Intensive suitable for sophomores and juniors
July 16-August 15, 2007
6week pre-college program ideal for juniors –portfolio prep
July 2- August 15, 2007
All applicants must attend the portfolio review on Saturday, May 12, 2007 10am-3pm

When I know this summers happening, I will post it again. Good luck.
Speaking of Cooper Union, how come not much mentioned about it in this site?
Has anyone ever get accepted or gone? Would it be this popular if tuition was not free? (still cost as much as state schools though, mind you. Not free as of zero.)

I have a schedule here.
Second semester (spring) begins on January 26th Saturday and end on April 19th.
They are kind of hard to get through by phone. Where do you live?
The best way to get any information is to just go there. Saturday program office is in the Engineer building across the street from main building. There should be printed application form around the door even though no one is in the office.
I believe it is a rolling application but if the class you want is full, you might have to choose other majors or have to wait until next year.
Apply in September and class starts in early October but he made it habit to apply ASAP during summer. You can pick 1st and 2nd choices.
Drawing, Architecture, Graphic Design, Painting, Sculpture.
There is also seniors only portfolio prep but this one needs review that was done last October and I don’t know if you can start now.
If you won’t be able to do this time, try coming to annual exhibition on April 12 Saturday to see students’ work from all the classes. There are really nice stuff that originally get him interested in doing it. ( and, of course, hanging out in the East Village.)
PS. Outreach program office is in the office building near Kaplan. I do not know about outreach program much except summer class that I posted before.

Cooper Union Summer Outreach 2008 info

Here is the post card given
This class is open for everyone - private, parochial, home schooled: not like Saturday program designed to help poor public high school students. I went to see spring review and boy, it was like NPD day. 10th 11th grade kids are like, poised, confident, showing amazing works and chatting with reviewers as their equals. And there were 100s of them! (they take, like 36-40 kids)
Good luck to everyone (including mine)

there is something wrong with web site. I could go once then when I tried to download application, it died and never came back.
Try calling or dropping by Outreach office iif you are in the area. I doubt you'd need to apply ahead of the time of the review, but just in case.
