MICA does a good combination of both spreading around scholarship money and awarding major amounts, actually. Last year they added 4 "full ride" scholarships and depending on donations, they may be adding more.

Can you give some numbers - how many students actually receive merit aid? 100? 50? 399?

I don't know any actual numbers but I feel like it's good number of my classmates, maybe even up to half the freshman class. Most people I know here receive some version of merit aid, i only know of one person without scholarships.

it's not impossible to get a scholarship at MICA however it is very competitive for the top scholarships. (50% of total tuition to a full all inclusive ride)

Do you know how many scholarships are based solely on merit and not a combination of merit and financial need?

there are also many more than the ones listed on that website, but they're the ones you are made eligible for automatically when you do at least one application for the competitive scholarships

Yeah, I got an invite for scholarship finalists. If the open house ended up being for all accepted students and prospective students...hmm...a little misleading.

Thank you Caressemh and Patois. I was wondering how much I should keep my hopes up. :-)

My son was also invited to the program for scholarship finalists. The letter my son received said the enclosed agenda was specially for finalists and was different from the published agenda, so we knew it was part of an open house. He was assigned group B which followed the finalist agenda. However, everyone around me on the long line outside the Brown Building seemed to be a scholarship finalist.

Sunday was the 1st time I ever visited MICA (my husband and son had already seen it). I was so impressed. My son said he found the panel discussion in the auditorium to be very informative. I liked that we had an opportunity to visit classrooms and talk to teachers in the PM. The classroom for graphic design was packed.

Good Luck to Everyone!!!!

jocan - there were different programs for the different groups of students, like elma said.

there was an itinerary for prospective students, an itinerary for the general applicants, and one for the scholarship finalists. The scholarship finalists ate in the main building for lunch, everyone else ate in the meyerhoff. If it helps, I think there were only 3 or 4 classrooms converted to "lunchrooms" in main. So the scholarship finalists and their families would fill about 4 classrooms in the main building. That's about the closest approximate i can give, haha.

Wait did they actually give out scholarships at that open house? I told my counselor I wouldn't be able to go and she said I'd only be missing a tour and a few information sessions....

Anyway, they mailed out the sholarship/fin.aid letters today I think!

At the presentation they said, they still had one more meeting which going to take place the next day. The scholarships then had to be combined with financial aid. The packages would then be sent out by express mail and everyone should receive them by Sat.

So how many finalists do you estimate were at the Open House?

I have no idea -- at least 100, probably much more.
The lower part of the auditorium was full, and I have no idea how many people were in the balcony.
