colleges with strong art programs in northeast

Does anyone have recommendations for a college with a strong art dept.? Just checking all options, besides private art schools.

I have heard SUNY Purchase has a good dept., does anyone know?

Any other suggestions in the NY, Conn., area.

thanks

Are you looking for stand alone art school or colleges/universities with strong art programs.? If you are looking at the latter, check out Temple University, which just merget with Tyler School of Art. Also check out Alfred University, Skidmore college, and Towson University.

thanks for the info. I really didn't want to go upstate NY.
I wanted to stay closer to NYC, CT., area.
I'm am visiting Pratt, Purchase and Fairfield University this week. I sort of wanted to compare a colleges program against the stand alone art school. If you have any suggestions, I'm torn between fine arts, graphics, illustration, special effects, costume design. I guess I need access to all.

thanks

I can't speak for Costume Design since the only school that offers it that I know about is Otis in California.

Af for special effects and graphics, I like Pratt, RISD, Syracuse (especially for illustration). You might also want to check out Maine College of art. If you are willing to go as far as Maryland, check out MICA.

Frankly, I think you should seriously look into University of Cincinnati School of Design ,Art, Architecture and Planning even though it isn't in NY or New England. It has strong programs in special effects ( Digital Design) and graphic design with 6 quarters of coops.

Also, check out Mass College of Art.

thanks for the suggestions. I will be checking out MassArt,
RISD , Pratt. I'm afraid if I don't have the funds to go, that I should have back-ups. Do you know anyone that attended Purchase? I just keep hearing the program is really good, but the campus isn't.
I also wanted to look into SVA but my art teacher said the fine art dept. wasn't that good.

confused

Would you consider Pa?
-Drexel
-Moore College of Art and Design

My son visited Drexel and liked it but later decided not to apply. I don't know anything about Moore except that it is 99% women.

I don't know if they have costume design, but another college to check out in MA is Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University.
