What art major would... fit?

Hey guys, I'm currently researching info on various art schools, mainly looking at graphic design programs, but i have just realized a very obvious blip in my decision making that should have been taken care of a lot longer before this.

I feel like I'm attracted to many of the following - concept artist/childrens book illustrator/card illustration/storyboard artist/animator/(ESPECIALLY concept artist)

my current plan was to try to major in graphic design, which would offer me a chance to break into the above mentioned industries, while at the same time, if something happens to not work out, i would have a wide range of possible paths i could take (the most obvious one being a graphic designer, which doesnt sound too bad at all). the main reason behind this is basically that i see graphic design as being more "marketable" and flexible in the job market, giving me more options when compared to other art majors such as illustration or animation.

is my... thinking flawed?

You might want to consider a school that allows you to choose a major and a concentration. Therefore you can major in Graphics Design and have a concentration in illustration (or the other way around). IMO, it is a good combination because if your design requires a drawing, you can do your own instead of depending on another artist.

Many schools require a foundation year, and you do not have to pick a major until the end of freshman year. If you follow this route, you will have a better idea of what direction you want to take, and knowledgeable faculty to guide you. Good Luck.

Pratt Institute has a major in graphic design with an illustration concentration. Look into them.
