Barron's AP Music theory

I am preparing to take the ap music theory test in spring 2013 and have already bought the barron's ap music theroy book. however, how exactly should i use it? should i just read the material and let it soak in or should i just take notes? what is the best approach to using this book and getting the most out of it? and btw, i have been playing the piano and alto saxophone for six years, so i do have a music background. my piano teacher has been going over the book with me but i want to do my own studying outside of the lessons so that i remember everything and, like i said, get the most out of the book...so wat is the best way to use this book?
