Can My Son Defer College Applications to Gap Year?

Question: I’ve been told that before my son takes a gap year, he has to apply to–and be accepted by–a college, then talk to them about deferring admission for a year. Well, I applied to school during my gap year. So it's possible. But if you get admitted, then decide to enroll a year late, you're on the safe side. It takes a lot of pressure out of your gap year...and you can do everything you want to do without the drama

On the other hand, if you do something amazing during your gap year, which might help your admission, then you should obviously wait.
