Submitting ACT Results Before Writing Test is Scored

Question: I took the September ACT and did much better than before, and that is the one I want the schools to see. I got everything but the writing results. I’m applying to some schools that have Rolling Admission and others with Early Action. I don’t want to hold off on my entire application waiting [...]

Son took ACT last Feb and earned a composite score of 28 with an essay score of 11. He is retaking in Oct, but did not sign up for the writing portion (the one school he is trying to raise his score for does not require the writing portion). If he self-reports the earlier score and the second score, and if his composite improves as he expects, will schools look at the self-reported writing score along with the higher official score sent through ACT Inc. after the Oct test?
